The latest car to undergo the ASEAN NCAP crash safety test is the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and the latest compact crossover did not disappoint. The Eclipse Cross was awarded with the full five stars ASEAN NCAP crash safety rating with an impressive overall score of 91.05 (out of 100).

The car was tested with the more stringent ASEAN NCAP 2017 – 2020 protocols which take into account advanced safety assist technologies. The variant tested was the Singapore-spec 1.5-litre turbo that comes with seven airbags, ABS, ESC, autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning.

In the Adult Occupant Protection, the Eclipse Cross scored 35.14 out of 36 points but notably, it scored the full 16 out of 16 in the side impact test. Child Occupant Protection was scored 43.34 out of the full 49 points while it managed a respectable 14.50 points (out of 18) in the Safety Assist Category. All these combined gives a weighted score of 91.05 which qualifies the compact SUV for the full five stars ASEAN NCAP crash safety rating.

Commenting on its results, the organisation wrote “The Eclipse Cross is the fifth model under the Mitsubishi brand tested by ASEAN NCAP. It is expected that Mitsubishi will increase its strength in producing safer and competitive SUV in the near future. As both Euro NCAP and ANCAP acknowledged the model excellent rating under their respective assessment, ASEAN NCAP also congratulates Mitsubishi for another 5-Star car in their line-up”
