Kia to debut an all-electric crossover concept in Las Vegas, Niro EV?



It seems that Kia Motors will be joining the EV (Electic Vehicle) movement as they prepare to unveil an all-electric crossover concept at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on 8 January. The concept car will showcase Kia’s vision of cutting-edge vehicle interfaces, autonomous driving and the world’s first in-car 5G connection.

Based on the teaser image, it appears the company is hinting at a Niro EV however it is yet to be confirmed whether the final product will be named as such. Although wearing the Niro nameplate, the concept car looks radically different from the regular Niro. Sporting a crossover body style, the concept features much sleeker lines as well as new lighting graphics.

Kia is also taking the opportunity to debut its new range of advanced driver assistance technologies at the CES at their booth titled “Beyond Autonomous Driving”. The company will also exhibit its upcoming autonomous driving technologies as well as outline their plans for future autonomous mobility.

Kia will also present three futuristic cockpit designs to showcase how the company will integrate new technologies to enhance the connectivity between the car and driver. Kia also promises that the “never-seen-before human-machine interface (HMI)”, new advanced driver assistance technologies and world’s first in-car 5G connection are under heavy consideration for market introduction in the coming years.

Vice Chairman and Head of Hyundai-Kia R&D Center, Dr. Woong-cheol Yang said, “Virtual reality, self-driving cars, and full vehicle connectivity were all once considered technologies of the distant future. As they rapidly become a reality, Kia is exploring how to adapt these new technologies for its customers. At CES we will share our strategy and vision for future mobility, and exhibit a range of advanced technologies that our customers can look forward to.”
