All 12 units of the Volkswagen Beetle sold out in 20 minutes on Lazada!

Lazada kicks off 12/12 with its Online Revolution Campaign and Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is the only car maker to participate in the biggest online sale of the year (although MINI was the first to sell its cars online). VPCM and Lazda have made industry with all 12 units of its limited-edition Beetle were sold out in just 20 minutes.

The Lazada Online Revolution Campaign kick-started at 12 midnight on 12 December and the first Beetle was sold out 26 seconds after the sale began. Buyers had to place a pre-payment of RM5,000 on Lazada to secure an allocation of the limited-edition Beetle priced at RM112,112 (OTR without insurance). The 12 lucky buyers have just saved RM24,776 or 18 percent on their new Beetles on Lazada as compared to walking into a showroom.

The limited-edition Beetles come in two distinct designs – “Herbie 53” finished in either Pure White or White Silver and “Hot Bug” available in Tornado Red. Started life as a regular Beetle Design 1.2 TSI, the “Herbie 53” gets the famous red and blue stripes with the 53 number on both doors and hood. The “Hot Bug” gets a dual black stripe design that resembles a ladybug.

Mechanically, it retains 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TSI and seven-speed dual clutch (DSG) combo that sends 104 hp and 175 Nm of torque to the front wheels. If you sat this Online Sale out because you are not convinced by its puny engine, here is what you have missed out on.

Managing Director of VPCM, Erik Winter said, “We are delighted to have really pushed boundaries and made history with this collaboration – to be able to sell 12 cars within such a short period of time is amazing. This truly is a testament of how receptive Malaysians are when it comes to online purchasing.”
