All-new Jeep Compass lands in UK, 1.4L petrol & 1.6L diesel, coming to Malaysia?

Unveiled late last year, the second-generation Jeep Compass has finally arrived on UK shores and will go on sale in early 2018. The compact SUV combines off-road capabilities with an array of active driver assist systems packaged in a distinctive and contemporary Jeep design.

The UK-bound Compass will be available in four configurations: Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk, each varying in interior trims and features. The new Compass gets a new look with a seven-slot front grille, LED headlamps, Gloss Black roof, LED taillamps and trapezoidal wheel arches. Alloy wheel options range from 16-inch up to 19-inch in size and Jeep promises regardless of wheel option, they all provide superb traction in all road conditions.

Inside, the Compass boasts premium finishing and high-tech cabin with LED digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment Uconnect system, Selec-Terrain controls, electronic parking brake and integrated USB charging ports in the centre console. The Uconnect system comes in 5.0-inch or 8.4-inch in size and the latter features capacitive touch, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as voice command system.

In the UK, the Compass range is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol line up consists of a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged MultiAir2 Turbo in two different states of tune: 140 hp/230 Nm or 170 hp/250 Nm. Both engines are paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel MultiJet II comes in two states of tune: 120 hp/320 Nm and 140 hp/350 Nm. Both outputs are paired exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox. Sitting at the top of the diesel range is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel MultiJet II paired to a nine-speed automatic with 170 hp.

Safety wise, the Compass comes equipped with Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, Automated Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, electronic stability control (ESC) with electronic roll mitigation and six-airbags. All these entitles the Compass the full 5-Star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Locally, DRB-Hicom have the outgoing Compass on sale for RM249k, making it the most affordable Jeep model in Malaysia.
