Next-gen Infiniti QX50 shown ahead of global debut, gets 2.0L VC-Turbo

Infiniti has just confirmed that the teaser image released earlier is indeed the second-generation QX50 and the company has released details of the new SUV ahead of its global debut at the 2017 LA Auto Show.

The new QX50 will feature an all-new platform that promises new levels of refinement, rigidity and interior space in the compact premium SUV segment. It shares much of its design elements with its larger sibling the QX80, continuing the “Powerful Elegance” design language. Inside, Infiniti says the public can expect high-quality materials and advanced craftsmanship.

Motivation comes from Infiniti’s new 2.0-litre four-cylinder VC-Turbo engine, the world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio engine. The engine can alter its compression ratio anywhere between 8:1 to 14:1 for maximum performance and efficiency. Official output for the engine has not been released but engineers are looking at around 268 hp and 390 Nm of torque. The QX50 is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive layout.

Infiniti has also fitted the QX50 with ProPilot semi-autonomous driving system that can autonomously accelerate, brake and steer during single-lane carriageway driving, similar to the system shared on the Nissan Serena and Leaf.

The Infiniti QX50 world premiere will take place next week with more details to follow.
