All-new McLaren hypercar to be revealed next month, Project One rival?

McLaren Automotive has confirmed the official unveiling date of their next Ultimate Series hypercar at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show. The set date for the unveiling of the McLaren P1 replacement will be on 10 December 2017, earlier than the initially expected timeline of 2018.

So, what do we know about McLaren’s all-new hypercar? For starters it will be the most extreme and track-oriented road car to ever roll out of their production line, going as far as sacrificing “some degree” of daily drivability for the “most intensive driver experience around a circuit”.

The new hypercar’s design was described as brutal and will be the most extreme representation of the company’s “form follows function” philosophy. AutoCar UK reported earlier that McLaren might go as far as installing a fixed rear wing – the first for a road legal McLaren (P1 GTR is not street legal). It was also rumoured to feature an uprated M838T 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of 789 hp paired to an ultra-lightweight body of less than 1,300 kg.

Will McLaren’s new hypercar have the firepower to go against the recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG Project One and Aston Martin Valkyrie? We’ll have to wait for December 10 for that. But if you’re planning to wait till the unveiling to decide whether to put your money down for one, tough luck because all examples of the soon to be released Ultimate Series have been spoken for.
