A look inside the new, track-only Alpine A110 Cup

Alpine’s exploits and success in motorsports dating back to the 1970’s have spawned interests and legacies long after its heyday. Entrusting Signatech (Alpine’s race partner) with the design, development, production and sales, Alpine introduces the A110 Cup, as it looks to heightened the excitement behind the wheel of the light and agile, mid-engined sportscar.

Armed with a 1.8-litre turbocharged direct injection engine with a race-developed air filter and exhaust system, the A110 Cup puts out 270 hp with 320 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a six-speed sequential gearbox with a limited-slip, self-locking differential.

And weighing a measly 1,050 kg body, you can imagine how brutal the acceleration can be. Damping is tasked to Ohlins’ coilivers with Slick and threaded Michelin tyres for traction. Stopping power is provided by Brembo’s 6-pot calipers and rotors machined from a single piece of magnesium.

Inside its stripped interior that has been strengthened by a roll cage features a Sabelt bucket seat with a built-in head restraint and the XAP steering wheel with paddle shifters. There’s also a digital instrument panel and a variety of control switches for traction control, ABS, radio, pit limiter and even for drink-feeding! It has also got an adjustable pedal box and steering column to help driver’s position themselves snugly into the cockpit. It has even retained its original air-conditioning system.

The A110 Cup will be used to compete in a one-make championship called the Alpine Europa Cup in 18 separate races. Alpine will be charging €100,000 (approx RM 493k) for the car, with series registration fees amounting to about £18,000 (RM 88k).
