MINI takes a walk down memory lane with the new 1499 GT

MINI UK has added the latest special edition to its line-up in celebration of one of the most well-known sporty classic Minis of all time, the 1275 GT.

Commemorating the entertaining drive, distinctive styling and low running costs (although we’re not sure how the new one replicates this) of the 1969 original, the new 1499 GT is a salutation to one of the most affordable performance cars of its day.

The all-new MINI 1499 GT comes with 1.5-litre 3-cylinder Twin Power Turbo engine producing 102 hp with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 10.1 seconds. Power is delivered via a 6-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching technology and is contained by sports independent rear suspension.

The 1499 GT comes in Pepper White and Midnight Black where only 1,499 units will be built between November 2017 and February 2018 in a limited production run.

On the outside the 1499 GT comes with the MINI John Cooper Works Sports Pack which includes 17-inch Track Spoke alloy wheels in Black. Its appearance is further enhanced with  distinctive John Cooper Works front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a split level spoiler and John Cooper Works door entry plates.

Inside, a pair of sumptuous John Cooper Work Sports seats in Dinamica and leather  occupies the front section together with a JCW steering wheel in perforated leather with Chilli Red stitching.

The interior is also draped in Piano Black and Carbon Black trims and an Anthracite headlining. Entertainment is provided by a Visual Boost radio with MINI Connected smartphone compatibility.
