Mitsubishi Xpander selling by the truckloads in Indonesia – expect the same in Malaysia?

Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MMC) recently announced that the Xpander has enjoyed one of the most successful launches of any vehicle in Indonesia since it was introduced on a global scale not long ago.

The numbers are simply staggering; ever since it was showcased at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) where it took in more than 5,000 orders, the figures now stand at 23,000 units – more orders placed for any car model launched by any brand at the show since 2010.

With the aim of attracting the younger demographic with the opportunity to own their first vehicle, you can see why the Xpander is such a success with boundless practicality. Housing a frugal 1.5-litre MIVEC engine with an output of 105 hp, the Xpander also stands out with its commendable ground clearance alongside its best-in-class cabin space.

Complementing the generous space are also features like 16 bottle holders with dedicated smartphone trays for each passenger. Aside from that, what’s also worth noting is that the large windshield of the Xpander is made of soundproof glass, laminated with an extra sound-absorbing layer to ensure noise doesn’t seep into the cabin.

With recent news on the development of the e-EVOLUTION which would come equipped with Artificial Intelligence capabilities, there is much from MMC to look forward to, especially now that they’ve joined the Alliance made up of Nissan and Renault. When the EXPANDER arrives in Malaysia as confirmed, expect it to give the likes of Toyota Avanza and the Honda BR-V a close fight!
