PSA Groupe & ChangAn Automobile partners to develop new pick-up truck

PSA Groupes latest pick-up truck was the recently introduced Peugeot Pick Up (yes, somehow they manage to get away with that name). The Pick Up however, was a rebadge exercise from one of Dongfeng Motor Corporation’s line up and is made exclusive to the African market only.

Now, PSA has penned a partnership agreement with ChangAn Automobile to co-develop an all-new one-tonne pick-up truck platform for both parties. The agreement also sees the two automotive giant to jointly develop a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) dedicated for commercial use in ChangAns Ding Zhou plant in China.

The yet to be named pick-up truck will be offered not only in the Chinese market but also overseas market that PSA is represented in. The new pick-up will be a global product that meets customers expectation of a strong design with uncompromised quality and durability.

EVP of Programs and Strategy at Groupe PSA, Mr Patrice Lucas commented: “This new product, which is complementary to the Peugeot pick-up recently launched in Africa, is in line with the core model strategy of Groupe PSA and will support our come back on this growing market segment. It will contribute to achieve the objectives set for the Push to Pass plan regarding LCVs with a target to increase volumes by 30% by 2018 and triple overseas volumes by 2021”.
