Following the global unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz W213 E-Class Cabriolet, the sexy convertible is now on sale in the UK. A total of four engine choices are available at launch – two diesels and two petrols with prices starting from £44,675 (RM243k).
Like the C-Class Cabriolet, the E-Class gets a multi-layered acoustic fabric roof that can be opened and closed in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The Dark Red roof option was given a miss, therefore customers can only choose between Black, Dark Blue and Dark Brown roofs.
Standard equipment dittos the Coupe variant such as LED high performance headlamps, Magic Vision Control wiper system, reversing camera, heated front seats and 64 colour ambient lighting. The topless Merc gets additional Airscarf neck-level heating system and Aircap draught-stop system that redirects air flow over the cabin for improved comfort.
For a small price, customers can equip their E-Class Cabriolet with Multibeam LED Intelligent Light System, Air Body Control air suspension, 12.3-inch COMAND Online, Memory seats, Burmester Surround Sound system as well as keyless entry and start.
The E-Class Cabriolet range is made up of the entry level E 220 d that features a 2.0-litre turbo diesel with 194 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Century sprint takes 7.7 seconds. Further up the diesel line up is the E 350 d 4MATIC with a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel making 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque. Sprinting to 100 km/h from standstill takes 6.1 seconds.
Stepping up, the petrol range consists of the E 300 and E 400 4MATIC. The former is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo with 245 hp and 370 Nm of torque while the latter gets a 3.0-litre bi-turbo V6 lump that pushes out 333 hp and 480 Nm of torque. The E300 sprints to 100 km/h mark in 6.6 seconds while the E 400 with all-wheel drive takes only 5.5 seconds.
A range of active safety systems are available when customers opt for the £1,695 (RM9k) Driver Assistance Plus Package which combines Distance Pilot Distronic, Speed Limit Pilot, Active Lane-Change Assistant, Active Brake Assist cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist and Pre-Safe Impulse Side.
