Porsche 911 GT2 RS unveiled, the most extreme road-legal 911 ever!

While motor shows are usually the default platform to launch a car, Porsche chose to unveil theirs at the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) video game exhibition. Behold, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS – the return of the GT2 moniker in seven years since the 997.

Previewed in all its glory during the preview of the Forza Motorsport 7 for the Xbox One, the 911 GT2 RS will be featured in this long-running racing game series coming out later this year. Details of this super 911 remain sketchy, although it’s safe to say that it’s a 911 Turbo S on steroids.

It’ll be powered by the same 3.8-litre twin turbo flat six engine shared with the 911 S Turbo, enhanced with larger turbos and water spray intercooler. The final output figure will surely be more than the donor’s 580 hp, which means it will sprint faster than the Turbo S’ 2.9 seconds century sprint. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission.

The new 911 GT2 RS is expected to be equipped with rear-axle steering with Porsche Torque Vectoring and a fully variable locking rear differential. Exterior wise, it gets clothed with motorsports-inspired aerokit and a huge rear wing.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is scheduled for launch in late 2017 and will be the final hurrah to the current 991 generation. We can’t think of a more fitting sendoff than this, really, until we make way for its electrified successor.
