Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance debuts, 245hp & 370 Nm, 6-speed manual!

Late last year, Volkswagen unveiled the Golf MK7 facelift but what the company did not do was to release full details of the Golf range in one go. Early this month, Volkswagen released key performance figures for the Golf BlueMotion 1.5, one that sips 4.6L/100 km. Now, we have the full details of the updated Golf GTI Performance, the hotter version in the GTI lineup.

Underneath the hood of the Golf GTI Performance is the same 2.0-litre TSI engine now massaged to push out 245 hp (+18 hp) and 370 Nm (+20 Nm) – the latter is available from 1,600 rpm to 4,300 rpm. Tasked to transfer power to the front wheels is either a newly developed seven-speed DSG automatic or a six-speed manual.

The refreshed Golf GTI now hits the 100 km/h mark quicker at 6.2 seconds compared to 6.5 seconds previously. Top speed is rated at 248 km/h on the DSG-equipped Golf and 249 km/h on the manual. Along with the increased performance, the Golf GTI Performance also benefits from larger brake discs, red front callipers and electronic front differential.

Pricing for the Golf GTI Performance starts from £29,280 (RM164k) in the UK and it’s available in a three or five-door configuration. We know that the Golf MK7 facelift range will be making its way to Malaysia soon, but truth be told, we might not get the Golf GTI at all, let alone this. Let’s all start praying…
