Honda Malaysia recalls 419 units of Civic Type R (FD2R) over airbag concerns

Honda Malaysia has just issued a recall for 419 units of Honda Civic Type R (FD2R), MY 2007, 2008 and 2010 to replace the potentially faulty Takata airbag module. All 419 units of the high-performance sedan will require to have both front airbag inflators replaced.

In case you are not aware of the ongoing Takata crisis, we have detailed in full on why you should get your faulty airbags replaced as soon as possible. In short, the faulty airbag module, when deployed, will send metal shards into the occupants and cause even more harm. In some cases, even death!

Honda Malaysia would like to emphasise that all its current model on sale are not affected by the Takata airbag recall campaign. Owners of the FD2R will receive a notification letter which will include details of the recall. Alternatively, you can logon to their microsite to check if their respective vehicle(s) is involved in any recall campaign.

These airbag inflators can be replaced at any one of Honda Malaysia’s 86 authorised service centres nationwide, as well as official mobile hubs at various shopping malls and Petronas stations. The full list of Honda Mobile Hubs locations (effective till 31 May 2017) can be found here.
