2017 Citroen E-Berlingo Multispace unveiled, 67 hp & 200 Nm, 170 km range

Remember some good years ago when the quirky Citroen Berlingo was sold here in Malaysia? Now there’s a much more modern version of the small MPV, the Citroen E-Berlingo Multispace.

As its name suggest, it is all-electric and is built based on Berlingo. It retains the two iconic rear sliding doors and seats five. Standard boot volume is 675 litres, but expands to a cavernous 3,000 litres when the rear seats are folded. Items such as air conditioning, hill-start assist and a 7.0-inch touchscreen are available.

This electrified Berlingo is powered by an electric motor that packs 67 hp and 200 Nm of torque. E-power comes from two high-capacity lithium-ion battery packs that are located on each side of the rear axle. With fast charging, up to 50 percent of energy can be recuperated within 15 minutes, and getting to 80 percent charge takes just 30 minutes. When it’s plugged into a domestic home socket, it takes 8 hours to get a full charge from empty.

At full capacity, the batteries yield up to a claimed distance of 170 km. As of now, no pricing has been revealed, and it’s unclear as to whether the E-Berlingo will sell in great numbers. But it does make sense for Citroen to roll this out, for it might just give urbanites a highly practical, tax-free alternative.
