McLaren’s next supercar to use 4.0L bi-turbo V8, 0 – 200 km/h in 7.8 seconds!

After McLaren’s next generation supercar was seemingly leaked, McLaren Automotive is keeping the hype up with the announcement of the P14’s powertrain of choice – an all-new 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8.

Before going into the details, let’s take a stroll down memory lane. The current McLarens share the same M838T, 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, producing anywhere from 532 hp in the 540C to 723 hp in the P1 hypercar.

Their next supercar will get a completely new engine to go with their next-generation carbon fibre monocoque. The engine will be none other than the M840T, 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8. No key performance figures have been revealed but McLaren claims a 0 to 200 km/h sprint time of 7.8 seconds, and will cover a standing quarter mile in 10.3 seconds.

McLaren Super Series Vehicle Line Director, Haydn Baker said, “Power, torque and throttle response are all significantly enhanced compared to the first-generation Super Series, yet with fuel efficiency and emissions also notably improved.”

McLaren will also slap on a brand new set of exhaust system, though a much sportier one can be had as an option. Besides that, the engine bay is uniquely illuminated and lights up when the vehicle is unlocked. Because hey, when you have that V8, flaunt it, right?

More details of the McLaren P14 supercar will be revealed on 7 March 2017, so if you’re a huge fan of the brand (like yours truly), be sure to watch this space!
