Five-door Ford Fiesta ST unveiled, does not compromise driving dynamics

The Ford Fiesta ST is currently one of the finest hot hatches sold in the market. Yet for some, it’s far from perfect, due to the lack of practicality. It didn’t take long for Ford to get this sorted out, because announced just recently is the five-door Ford Fiesta ST.

Available for the first time ever, the two extra doors does not comprise the car’s top-notch driving dynamics and brilliant performance. In fact, Ford is confident that 25 percent of the Fiesta ST customers will opt for the five-door variant.2016-ford-fiesta-st-5door-3

Apart from the newfound practicality, nothing much has changed.  Thus, the all-familiar 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine that produces 180 hp and 240 Nm of torque is retained. It’ll still sprint to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds, which is just as quick as the three-door sibling. The only observable drawback is the fuel consumption. It now consumes 6.1 litres of fuel per 100km travelled, or about 0.2 litres more than the three-door.

The Fiesta ST comes with Torque Vectoring Control and three-mode stability control, just as before. The same wheels, sports grille, rear diffuser, Recaro seats and ST badges are all identical. 2016-ford-fiesta-st-5door-2

The five-door Fiesta ST starts at £18,495 (approximately RM99k based on today’s conversion rates) in the UK, a premium of RM3,200 over the three-door variant. Back at home, the Ford Fiesta ST (three-door) is sold in limited numbers, and carries a sticker price of RM 149,888. Will the five-door Fiesta ST be introduced here, then?
