Sketches of next-gen Kia Rio leaked online

The current generation Kia Rio is indeed a looker (except maybe the sedan), thanks to the bold design language employed by Kia Motors. However, the third-generation Korean supermini is due for a replacement, and now we get a glimpse of what’s to come.

These sketches suggest the new Rio will retain its sporty outlook, appealing to the younger demographic of buyers. The new Rio’s extended wheelbase, sculpted doors, and higher shoulder line point towards a roomier cabin, and remains as a hatchback body for now.

Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille design is noticeable at the front, and the slimmer grille design is in line with Kia’s latest products. At the back, a new set of taillight design is used together with a small roof spoiler, so the changes aren’t as drastic compared to the model it replaces. Those large wheels you see here won’t make it to production, so don’t hold your breath too long.kia-rio-fourthgen-4

Inside, the dashboard looks pretty much straightforward, with a larger central touchscreen for multimedia consumption. The new Rio is expected to be equipped with the latest connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

No announcements are made on the powertrain, but judging from the current UK spec, the 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines, as well as the 1.1-litre diesel lump will be carried over. Forced induction variants of the 1.4-litre and the all-new three-cylinder 1.0-litre engines are also planned for the new Rio.kia-rio-fourthgen-2

The new Ford Fiesta rival will make its full debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in late September. Production is scheduled to begin by the end of the year. Presently, Kia Malaysia is offering both the third-generation Rio hatchback and saloon models, starting from RM72,888.00.
