As far as luxury 4×4 vehicles go, the Land Rover Range Rover is in a class of its own. With its luxurious interior and superior off-roading capabilities, the Range Rover is highly regarded as a luxury 4×4.
Firstly, new to the line-up is the SVAutobiography Dynamic variant which Jaguar Land Rover boasts as being the most powerful and dynamic Range Rover ever made. The SVAutobiography Dynamic is powered by a 550 hp, 680 Nm supercharged V8 paired to a ZF eight-speeder that is good for a 0-100km/h time of 5.2 seconds. Besides that, a retuned suspension lowers ride height by 8mm to provide better handling dynamics is standard fitment. Inside, the interior is spoilt with luxury. Diamond quilted leather seats, contrast stitching and knurled finished controls are all standard affair in the top of the range model.
A new engine choice is also added to the current line-up – a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 that produces 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. It is good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.2 seconds.
JLR added a whole suite of semi-autonomous tech to the Range Rover called Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). New here are Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Cruise Control with Speed Limiter and Rear Park Distance Control.
The Drive Pro Pack adds on Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assists, Traffic Sign Recognition, Reverse Traffic Detection, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Driver Condition Monitor as well as Lane Keep Assist.
In addition to that, JLR also introduced Advanced Tow Assist that guides drivers to reverse into position when towing a trailer. It uses the cameras to lay out trajectory lines to ensure a perfect fit. Low Traction Launch is also available, which controls the torque delivered to each wheels from standstill on slippery surfaces to prevent wheel spin.
Moving into the cabin, a new 10-inch touchscreen ‘InControl Touch Pro’ infotainment system is also available as an option on the updated Range Rover. It comes with an integrated app that allows owners to remotely activate climate control, alarm and engine start. The app will also alert the owner if the security system on their Range Rover is triggered.
There are 19 new exterior colours available for customers to specify. With the introduction of the 2017 Range Rover, JLR further pushes the luxury benchmark. But does it come with the right dose of grandiose to take on the Bentley Bentayga?
