Mitsubishi XM Concept marries the best traits of an SUV and MPV

At the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show, the new Mitsubishi XM Concept, a MPV-SUV hybrid, will make its public debut. The concept is similar to that of the Honda BR-V, combining the best traits of an SUV and MPV.

The new XM embodies Mitsubishi’s latest “Dynamic Shield” design language (first to debut on the Outlander), but here the XM struts significantly bolder lines than before. Mitsubishi explains that the XM Concept is designed with “the toughness of an SUV with the versatility of an MPV”. The letter ‘X’ stands for crossover while ‘M’ represents MPV.

No interior images have been revealed thus far, but the XM looks set to be a seven-seater car. Also, the interior will get a higher centre console stack and a black/white high-contrast interior coloring together with silver accents.

So what will the XM concept replace? It’s no secret that Mitsubishi’s current lineup is ageing drastically (comprised of models such as the Grandis, ASX, and Delica), the XM concept, if it makes to production, will certainly complement the product gap rather easily. Such cars will undoubtedly work well in populous markets like Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
