This epic elevated bus aims to solve traffic jams, and it’s real! [+Video]

Remember a while back there was this futuristic elevated bus concept aimed to solve traffic congestions? During the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (held from 19 to 22 May) saw a miniature model demo of the concept. Less than three months after the model was unveiled, China surprised the world with an actual working prototype. An. Actual. Working. Prototype.

Launched in Qinhuangdao, the elevated bus, codename TEB-1, is 22 meter in length, 7.8 meter in width and 4.8 meter in height. The bus from the future in its testing phase can ferry up to 300 passengers, but engineers claim that once the TEB-1 is ready for service, it will be able to accommodate up to 1,200 passengers each journey.

Similar to the concept of our very own BRT Sunway Line, the tracks are built on existing roads and the tram will travel above ongoing traffic. This will allow the TEB to weave through traffic uninterrupted. Compared to building an entirely new subway or a rapid transit, the TEB is said to cost significantly cheaper.

Now going through its feasibility studies, this may very well be public transport of the future. And judging from the pace the project is moving, the future is not very far away.
