2016 Mazda CX-5 2.2L Skyactiv-D arrives in Malaysia, CKD, RM162k!

Launched right alongside the facelifted Mazda6 diesel is this, the facelifted Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv-D. Just one variant is introduced, and unlike our friends in Thailand, there will not be an all-wheel drive variant. Instead, we get the front-wheel drive model, and it will be locally assembled with the rest of the CX-5 range.

At heart is the same 2.2-litre twin-scroll turbocharged clean diesel engine, making the same 173 hp and 420 Nm of torque as the Mazda6 diesel. It’s paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, but fun is slightly limited by the lack of paddle shifters. Nitpicking aside, this oil burning variant is just 55kg heavier than the 2.5-litre 2WD variant, and is lighter by 6kg compared to the 2.5-litre AWD variant.2016 Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv-D Launch - AutoBuzz.my

Despite being the second most expensive variant in the lineup, it certainly is the best equipped one of the lot. The list starts with adaptive full LED headlights, LED fog lamps, leather seats, electric parking brake, GPS navigation (3D and 2D mapping) and six airbags, the CX-5 diesel benefits from additional features exclusive to its own – Smart City Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.2016 Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv-D Drive to Hanoi - AutoBuzz.my

Like the Mazda6, this SUV is also awarded 5-stars by Euro NCAP, and gets six airbags as standard. Priced just under RM162k, this locally assembled SUV comes in four different colours – Aluminium Metallic, Arctic White (solid finish), Blue Reflex and Meteor Grey. Mazda Malaysia is currently in the midst of upgrading their production plant in Kulim, so for those who prefer the Soul Red Metallic over the four existing hues, just wait it out a little longer.

All Mazda CX-5s come with a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty, as well as a 3-year free service package. Mazda also says their diesel models are best complemented by Euro5 diesel (to prevent soot buildup in the engine), which is becoming increasingly accessible throughout the country. As of today, there are 235 petrol stations offering Euro5 diesel.
