Toyota Sienta previewed in Malaysia, may arrive by the end of 2016

A month after its launch in Indonesia, the Toyota Sienta is set to join the Malaysian lineup after UMW Toyota Motor took the wraps off the small MPV at the My Auto Fest 2016. If all goes well, this small and funky seven-seater will be on sale by the end of 2016.

The Sienta will be sold alongside the popular Avanza, but Toyota says the former is packaged to suit the younger demographic and those with a small family. The top-of-the-line Sienta seen here in these pictures feature automated soft closing rear sliding doors.

What the Sienta shares with the Avanza is the powertrain, which means underneath the hood is the 1.5-litre 2NR-FE Dual VVTI engine mated to a CVT with seven virtual ratios. The similar powertrain will be in place for the long-awaited Vios facelift. Drive is sent to the front wheels, unlike the Avanza’s rear-wheel drive configuration.

This variant gets a decent safety kit, comprised of all-round disc brakes, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ABS with EBD and three airbags – dual front and a driver’s knee airbag.2016 Toyota Sienta debuts in Malaysia - AutoBuzz.my

Creature comforts are plenty in our Sienta, as it receives LED headlights, a 4.2-inch multi-info display built within the instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment screen in the centre dash, digital air conditioning, electric sliding doors and keyless entry with push start button. The third-row seats can be uniquely folded down and pushed underneath the second-row seats in order to make room for cargo.

The Sienta will become UMW Toyota’s middle child between the Avanza and the Innova, and tentative pricing is around the RM100,000 ballpark. Look out for the Sienta when it’ll be officially unveiled before the end of 2016. Meanwhile, enjoy the gallery below.
