Audi R6 sports car planned, to slot between TT and R8

This piece of news has been going around for some time now, that Audi is planning to introduce a brand new model that will fill the gap between the TT and R8. It’s called the R6, and if it were to be true, the model will be the first for newly formed Audi Sport division.

According to a report from AutoBild, the R6 could be a mid-engined sports car just like the R8. It will share the same underpinnings as the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models, but will utilise Ingolstadt’s Quattro technology instead of rear-a wheel driven solution from Stuggart.

Will the Audi R6 look like the R8, or more like the TT?

Also, Audi is expected to employ its own engines via a turbocharged 2.5-liter straight five engine that powers the RS Q3 model. Three variants of R6 are being planned – the entry level gets 280 hp, followed by a 340 hp mid-range while the range topper, presumably the R6 plus, will get around 400 hp. Transmission option will most likely be a dual-clutch S-Tronic.

The thing is, Audi’s executives have yet to give the car a green light. If all goes well, we might just see the R6 make its debut sometime next year at a major international motor show.

Just what are your thoughts on the R6, guys?
