Next-gen Suzuki Swift turbo leaked online, but we won’t be getting it

Pictures of the next-generation Suzuki Swift has just been leaked online, and it looks to replace the existing model as soon as next year. The biggest change here however, is the powertrain – now downsized and turbocharged.

But first, let’s go over the design. Judging from these images, the variant in question is most likely the hotter Swift Sport. It gets a redesigned grille and larger air vents around the fog lights within the front bumper. Things get a little bit more interesting as we move towards the back. Thanks to the small blacked-out portion of the C-pillars, the roof appears to be floating, possibly housing the rear door handles, just like the Honda HR-V. The front and rear headlights received LED treatment as well.2017-suzuki-swift-sport-002

Both the Swift and Swift Sport will benefit from turbocharging this time around. The regular Swift will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo that makes 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque, but numbers for the Swift Sport’s 1.4-litre turbo hasn’t been revealed thus far.

The Suzuki Swift is no strange car in Malaysia, and was once a big hit thanks to their CKD operations here with DRB-Hicom. However, that chapter ended after three generations of the Swift, following the demise of Suzuki in Malaysia recently. This likely means that we won’t be getting the fourth-generation Swift, so if you’re in the market for a peppy little hatch, it’s best to start looking elsewhere.
