Quick Look: Mercedes-Benz GLC, GLE and GLE Coupe in Malaysia [+Video]

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s premium SUV offering is comprised of three key models – the GLC 250, GLE and GLE Coupe; all three of which were simultaneously introduced over an epic carnivalesque event held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC).

Let’s start with the GLC. The GLC 250 4MATIC is an SUV based on the W205 C-Class and is available in one trim only. It’s powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as the C-Class, tuned to produce 211 hp at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,200 to 4,000 rpm. All that power is transferred to all four wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. As such, it will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and will top out at 250 km/h. Pricing for this really well-kitted SUV is RM328,888 OTR without insurance. 2016 Mercedes-Benz Premium SUV Launch - AutoBuzz.my

If the GLC isn’t the car for you, then there’s the GLE range, offered in two body types – a regular full-sized SUV or the Coupe. The former comes in two flavours – a 2.1-litre turbodiesel (204 hp and 500 Nm) and a more potent 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 (333 hp and 480 Nm). However, the diesel variant settles for a seven-speed 7G-Tronic gearbox instead of the 9G-Tronic box used in the V6 variant, though they both remain all-wheel driven.

But if you want more style with all that Germanic substance, the GLE eagerly awaits at the top of the premium SUV range. Offered with one V6 engine (but two state of tunes) only, the GLE Coupe 400 is no slouch, chucking 333 hp and 480 Nm of torque onto the road through a nine-speed gearbox. This variant will set you back at RM630,888.2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Launch - AutoBuzz.my

The same 3.0-litre V6 is also shared with the hotter GLE Coupe 450 AMG, but here it’s uprated to make 367 hp and 520 Nm of torque, allowing it to blitz through the century sprint in just 5.7 seconds. It sits on a set of ridiculously huge 22-inch wheels and gets a host of go-faster AMG trimmings.

If you’re wondering why the Mercedes-Benz GLA isn’t in the list, that’s because Mercedes-Benz Malaysia chose to keep the model within their compact car portfolio that’s complemented by the A-Class and CLA as well.2016 Mercedes-Benz Premium SUV Launch - AutoBuzz.my
