Lexus Malaysia taking orders for facelifted ES, starts from RM259k to RM355k

Just two weeks after the facelifted Lexus ES broke cover, Lexus Malaysia has gone on to start taking orders for the refreshed sedan. Like before, there will be three flavours to choose from – ES 250 Premium, ES 250 Luxury and the top-of-the-range ES 300h.

There’s no word on its arrival as yet, but we expect an early entry (very likely in August or early September), perhaps much earlier than the IS200t’s scheduled arrival in late Q4 this year. Prices are ever so slightly higher from before, and start from RM259,200 for the ES 250 Premium; RM278,600 for the ES 250 Luxury and RM355,100 for the ES 300h hybrid. All prices stated are OTR but excludes insurance.

The facelift brings about more visual than mechanical updates, because what you get on the outside are auto levelling LED headlights with Lexus’ signature LED daytime running lights (both standard across all trims), brand new tail lamps, bolder spindle grille, keyless entry with push-start system, powered sunroof and a new set of 17-inch aluminium wheels wrapped with 215/55 profile tyres.

Inside, all trims share the new multifunction, wood-and-leather three-spoke steering wheel, backed by the familiar Optitron instrument clusters now seen on the Camry facelift. The tri-zone auto air conditioning feature is retained, as is the 10-way power adjustable front seats.

As mentioned earlier, there are no mechanical changes done unto the car. The same 2.5-litre four-cylinder 2AR-FE block with Dual VVT-i technology will power the ES 250 variants, whereas the ES 300h (also powered by the same engine, but gets a unique set of cams and pistons to yield optimal fuel efficiency) will get Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system.

Numbers remain the same; 181 hp at 6,000 rpm and 235 Nm at 4,100 rpm for the 2AR-FE lump, while the hybrid’s 2AR-FXE unit makes 202 hp and 213 Nm of torque, paired to a 105kW (that’s 141 hp and 270 Nm equivalent) electric motor. Where the hybrid settles for an e-CVT gearbox, both ES 250 variants will get the six-speed Super ECT automatic with three driving modes – ECO, Normal and Sport.

Safety wise, the ES comes with a host of passive and active safety technologies, of which include 10-airbags as standard, Vehicle Stability Control System, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Tyre Pressure Warning System, Hill Start Assist and Traction Control. However, features like Blind Spot Monitoring System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert can be had with the ES 250 Luxury and ES 300h variants.
