Isuzu Malaysia launches D-Max Diablo Special Edition, priced from RM110k to RM117k

Isuzu Malaysia has officially introduced the special edition (not to be confused with limited edition) of their popular D-Max workhorse, the Isuzu D-Max Diablo. It’s available here in two engine offerings – a 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre VGS turbodiesel, the former priced at RM110k and the latter at RM117k.

The last D-Max came in the guise of the Artic 3.0L which was launched last September as a 500-unit limited edition run. However, the D-Max Diablo will not be subjected to such exclusivity, meaning there’s no cap on the number of units it will be produced.

EXTERIOR

We’ll keep it short, because most of the changes here are cosmetics. The Diablo will only be offered in one colour – Cosmic Black Mica, fitting that of its name. Both the 2.5L and 3.0L will look identical on the outside and the inside, but we’ll get to the latter in a bit.

On the outside, you get the front bumper guards accented in matte aluminium-like colour, Diablo body decals, LED daytime running lights, roof rails, door visors, side steps, variant exclusive 17-inch Lenso alloy rims wrapped in 255/65 R17 rubbers and the RM5,500 D-LOC cargo cover with aero spoiler. Do note that all the accessories offered here amount to RM10,150, and they all come as standard with the Diablo. The chrome bits on the outside have also been given a dark grey finish to match the body colour.

INTERIOR

Inside, the Diablo gets a rather contrasting appeal. In Isuzu’s own words, the Diablo is ‘draped in Bloody Red Premium Italian Leather’. Yep, they’re going full on Diabolic here. Other parts of the cabin remain largely the same, though the Diablo benefits from LED illuminated scuff plates and Blaupunkt multimedia DVD player system worth RM2,500.

The only difference between the 2.5L and 3.0L Diablo variant is its air conditioning unit. The 2.5L settles for manual climate control whereas the 3.0L gets auto air conditioning controls. Both variants will also get Diablo embroidered carpets and reverse camera

PERFORMANCE

No changes have been made under the hood here. The 2.5-litre unit still makes 134 hp at 3,600 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm, wheras the 3.0-litre unit plucked from the V-Cross variant makes the identical 174 hp at 3,600 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm. Drivetrain is also the same – a five-speed automatic with Sequential Shift, channeling drive to all four wheels.

WHAT ELSE?

Safety wise, the Diablo comes with two SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, ESC and Traction Control System, child ISOFIX mount and reverse sensors. Again, the Diablo will only come in Cosmic Black Mica, and is priced at RM110k for the 2.5L and RM117k for the 3.0L. Both variants come with Isuzu’s three-year or 100,000 km warranty programme, whichever comes first.
