All-new Ford Everest unveiled at Bangkok, shares Ranger’s diesel engines [+Video]

Ford’s long overdue SUV, the Everest, has just made its world premier at the 2015 Bangkok International Motor Show alongside the Ranger facelift.

It’s designed to meet Southeast Asian demand and live up to what is expected of a premium SUV. Unlike the previous Everest, this seven seater SUV isn’t built on the Ranger T6’s platform, but is new from the ground up, we’re told.

You might notice a bit of design familiarity here with the Ranger, and you’re not wrong to spot them because the Everest’s front end looks like it is indeed chopped off the Ranger, except less bold, like that grille in particular. It boasts best-in-class all-terrain capability, further strengthening that ethos with a class best 225 mm ground clearance and 800 mm water-wading capability.

Inside, this SUV should be the answer to all your weekend outdoor excursions with more than 30 cleverly positioned stowage spaces. It also comes with the Active Noise Cancellation feature which, like the Honda Accord’s, uses three microphones inside the cabin to detect and measure noise.

When sound is picked up by the microphones, a smart control module immediately generates opposing sound waves through the speakers to cancel out noise. To add comfort, the Everest also gets a generous amount of sound deadening materials, optimising cabin sealing.

Not much is known in terms of its specifications, but Ford Asia Pacific revealed that two Duratorq engines will power this SUV: an updated 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre diesel engines sourced from the Ranger facelift. Output figures are exactly the same too. The former makes 158 hp and 385 Nm of torque, whereas the 3.2-litre engine makes 197 hp and 470 Nm of torque. No mention on any EcoBoost engines, though.

Power is channeled through a six-speed automatic gearbox to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the variant.

If you’re wondering when the Everest will arrive here, Sime Darby Auto Connexion confirmed that its arrival will be sometime in August or September this year. Pricing for the 2.2L variant is said to be around RM150k to RM160k, whereas the 3.2L will be touching the RM200k figure. That said, does this SUV pique your interest?
