2015 McLaren 675LT Longtail unleashed, most track-focused road-legal Mac to date

Uh-oh, looks like there’s going to be a clash of titans at the Geneva Motor Show. Ferrari announced earlier about their latest 488 GTB with 660 hp, and now McLaren responded with their 675LT with 666 hp.

The 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 has been thoroughly revamped that it gains a new engine code – M838TL. More than 50 percent of the engine is new, and it includes a redesigned cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds, new camshaft and lightweight connecting rods, and a couple of new, more efficient turbos.675LT_006

With 666 hp and 700 Nm of torque, the 675LT rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, and another 5 seconds to reach 200 km/h, with a top speed of 330 km/h. For comparison, the 488 GTB cracks 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and 200 km/h in 8.3 seconds, but the top speed is quoted at “more than 330 km/h”.

Being the most track-focused road-legal machine McLaren has ever produced, the 675LT has been given a strict diet that enables it to shed more than 100 kg over its siblings. Carbon fiber is used almost everywhere, the body panels, the front splitter, the side sills, the rear wings, et cetera you name it.675LT_005

It may look similar to the 650S from the front, but most significant changes are done to the tail. While it’s not exactly a “Longtail” as per McLaren F1 GTR with extended rear overhang, the “Longtail” 675LT refers to the active Airbrake that’s now 50 percent larger than before.

The interior has been stripped out and features a pair of ultra lightweight carbon fibre-shelled bucket seats from the P1. The 675LT is only available as a Coupe, and it will be offered in five ‘By McLaren’ hero specifications in McLaren Orange, Silica White, Delta Red, Napier Green and Chicane Grey.675LT_009

The battle between Woking and Maranello is getting more and more intense. Which side are you on?
