2015 Lexus GS F sedan unwrapped, soldiers a 467bhp 5.0L V8 engine [+Video]

Watch out, Germans. You’ve ought to get your hands busy by now because the Japanese are upping their game in the arena of really fast cars. The Acura NSX wasn’t the only Japanese flexing its muscles at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, because under the same limelight, Lexus for the first time took the veils off their all-new GS F.

QUICK FACTS

Name Lexus GS F
Engine 4,969cc; naturally aspirated V8 (2UR-GSE engine)
Transmission 8-speed Sports Program Direct Shift automatic
Max Power 467 hp @ 7,100 rpm

We already know that Lexus will be introducing their latest F-designated model following the release of several teaser pictures last month. This time around, the GS gets the F treatment and will be sold alongside the RM782k Lexus RC F that was recently introduced here.

Not much details came about at the global premiere, but what we can tell you is that the GS F shares the same 5.0-litre V8 engine plucked from the RC F. The naturally aspirated engine is good for 467 hp at 7,100 rpm and 527 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm to 5,600 rpm.

Paired to the engine is also the same eight-speed Sports Program Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic gearbox with paddle shifters for manual shifts. This rear-wheel drive sports sedan comes with four driving modes as standard – Normal, Eco, Sport and Sport S+.

Lexus also claimed to have upgraded their Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) and now comes with three operating modes for optimum performance – Standard, Slalom and Circuit. As is the trend right now, the GS F is equipped with the brand’s Active Sound Control feature which ‘transmits’ engine sound through the internal rear speakers during acceleration or deceleration.

To complement the ferocious F badge, the GS underwent a massive facial reconstruction externally, beginning with the brand’s trademark, F-oriented  “Spindle” grille. The headlights have also been redesigned, this time housing three horizontally placed L-shaped LED modules as the main illuminating source, complemented by their daytime running lights.

The GS F gets larger air ducts, rear spoiler, lower grille moulding made of carbon fibre reinforced polymer and quad exhaust pipes. It also sits lower and wider than its non-F siblings, while riding on 19-inch polished aluminium wheels with black-painted wheel nuts.

Inside the fastest (and loudest) GS variant is a different world altogether when compared to the other GS variants. Here you get specially designed seats, instrument panel meters that are inspired by a modern aircraft’s cockpit and switches to improve overall operational experience. There’s also an analogue clock placed right in the middle of the centre air-conditioning vents, just like the RC.

Looks like we’ll have to wait a tad longer for the IS F’s next lease of life, then. If Lexus decides to continue their journey down this path, then, hypothetically speaking, there could be an ES F in the making. Oh and also, if you haven’t already watched the transformer-esque video above, we highly recommend that you give it a go. It’s really worth the time, trust us.
