All-new Nissan X-Trail open for booking, starting price just below RM150k

It’s been a long time coming, for the third-generation Nissan X-Trail is finally open for bookings. It first appeared at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and was launched in Japan earlier this year, so it’s about time now we receive a refreshed version of what was once a successful SUV in its prime.

Two trims of the X-Trail will be offered here, the base model being the 2.0-litre front wheel drive (2WD) variant, whereas the range topping variant gets the 2.5-litre four wheel drive (4WD) configuration. The smaller engine (now with direct injection tech) makes 142 hp at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm, while the 2.5-litre twin CVTC makes 168 hp at 6,000 rpm and 233 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

Both engines share the same gearbox pairing – Nissan’s next-gen Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with seven-speed manual shifting mode and an ECO driving mode as well. Features new to the X-Trails are Active Ride Control, a system that improves ride comfort on bumpy terrains and the Active Engine Braking helps the driver to reduce speed when cornering or stopping.

There’s also the Active Trace Control, which is Nissan’s first application on any of their cars, that individually brakes any one wheel to reduce understeer. On the 2.5-litre variant, it benefits from an All-Mode Intelligent 4×4 System that is operable via a knob near the centre armrest, changing three drive types between 2WD, Auto Mode or Lock Mode for permanent 4WD.

Nissan says that the seats are leather wrapped and inspired by ‘Zero-Gravity’ which already sounds comfortable on its own. There’s also a first-in-class 360-degree Around View Monitor that makes manoeuvring in tight spots easier. Full details of the Malaysian-specced X-Trail will be revealed soon at its launching, so do keep an eye out for that!

The all-new X-Trail is scheduled for delivery beginning January next year, and can be had in five different colours: Tungsten Silver, Titanium Olive, Diamond Black, Graphite Blue and Brilliant White. The 2.0-litre variant will be priced below RM150k, whereas the 2.5-litre variant cost you a little less than RM170k.
