The race, which will feature some odd 20 to 30 cars – including the Lamborghini Huracan – racing at the heart of the city doing speeds in excess of 200 km/h! And we thought speeding in town was never possible.

Set to be held from 7 to 9 August next year, the three-day (over the weekend) GP will see an 11-turn, 3.2km anti-clockwise circuit that flags off from KLCC through Jalan P. Ramlee, into Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Pinang and back to KLCC for the chequered flag.

The City GP series is expected to witness five to seven racing series, which will also feature the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Cup, Formula Masters and Volkswagen Scirocco Celebrity Challenge. While it is unconfirmed, we did spot footages of a major GT series playing on TV screens at the venue, but no words were spoken with regards to that. Looks like we’ll just have to wait for the official announcement, then.

To bring all this into fruition, event organiser GT Global Race (M) Sdn Bhd will collaborate with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), which will grant exclusive rights to organise the KL City Grand Prix for the next six years, up to 2020. To quote GT Global Race Chairman, YAM Tunku Naquiyuddin ibni Tuanku Jaafar, “With less than 10 months to go, we are fully geared and well throttled to take off on this journey to make the KL City Grand Prix a truly memorable experience.”

Partner Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) will assist in the organisation of the race as well as helping to attain homologation from the FIA, which according to President & CEO Mr M Arrasu, will be expected sometime March next year, while the design and development of the city track will be jointly undertaken by UK-based Apex Circuit Design Ltd and Australian-based KBR Project Management.

I for one, am hoping this will be as exciting and as prestigious as the Macau GP. Who’s with me?
