Ford offers tuning handset for their EcoBoost cars: Up to 122 Nm in gains for the Focus ST!

Aftermarket engine tuning is no strange thing to the auto industry, and people are constantly finding ways to get more power out of a stock engine. It’s rampant – many resort to aftermarket tuning companies, though the gains are achieved at the cost of the car manufacturer’s warranty.

Most modern Fords come with their revered EcoBoost engines, and the folks at Ford Racing wants you to modify them by simply plugging in the ProCal handset to the diagnostic port. With this, you can alter the throttle mapping, idling speed, waste gate control, ignition timing and many more, essentially upgrading its performance.

The calibrating handset retails at USD595 (RM2,100 est), and can be purchased from Ford Racing’s website. With the handset, you can tune just about any EcoBoost engines, all while retaining Ford’s warranty programme! For the Focus ST owners, you’re looking at an increase of 122 Nm, and that’s still within recommended limits.

There will also be a custom engine calibration for the Mustang’s new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, though that product is expected to be announced in end-2015. As for the Fiesta ST owners, if the number of ponies to your hot hatch isn’t pleasing you enough, you’re more than welcome to try this out for yourself.

Malaysian Ford distributor Sime Darby Auto Connexion has yet to acknowledge the ProCal’s compliance with their warranty programme, but until then, it’s best to brush off the impulse and wait for the official word.
