Facelifted 4th-gen Honda CR-V gets 1.6L i-DTEC & 9-speed auto transmission

At the upcoming 2014 Paris Motor Show, Honda will reveal a comprehensive update of its models and engine line-up for 2015. We already know that the 2015 Civic Type R Concept will take the stage, along with their new compact SUV, the HR-V. Before that, here’s the facelifted fourth generation Honda CR-V.

The popular compact SUV CR-V gets a new facelift as exterior will see obvious styling tweaks, beginning with the front headlights with integrated LED Daytime Running Lights, revised front grille, square shaped fog lights (pre-facelift had rounded fog lights), skid-plates, new set of wheels and new LED combination tail lights. The rear is also complemented with a huge chrome bar across the tailgate. Front and rear bumpers are revised too, with the front sporting more angular cuts.

Underneath the bonnet of the 4WD variant lies a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC, four-cylinder diesel engine that can be paired to an optional nine-speed automatic transmission. Nine actual cogs there, not a CVT box. The 1.6L will effectively replace the outgoing 2.2-litre i-DTEC mill. Numbers for the 1.6L diesel are 160 PS and 350 Nm of torque, 10 PS more than what the 2.2L makes.

Emissions play a big role in the European market, and the smaller diesel unit (paired to the six-speed auto) emits just 130 grams of CO2 per kilometer – 11 percent better than the preceding unit. The nine-speeder emits less than 135 g/km of CO2, that’s 20 percent better than the outgoing one.

There’s also the front-wheel drive CR-V that is available with a manual transmission. The old 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine that makes 120 PS and 300 Nm soldiers on, but emits just 117 g/km of CO2.
