It seems like Audi is seriously considering to expand the TT family, with the reveal of the TT Sportback concept at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Stretching the TT Coupe by 290 mm long and 60 mm wide, the TT Sportback is 4,470 mm long and 1,890 mm wide but 30 mm lower than the TT Coupe at 1,380 mm. The wheelbase is also extended by 120 mm to 2,630 mm.
The classic TT Coupe silhouette has been carried over, making the TT Sportback a true 4-door coupe complete with frameless windows for all four doors. The front is slightly different from the production TT Coupe with the Audi four rings that sit inside the Singleframe grille, and a redesigned bumper.
The pronounced wheel arches and side sill stand out from the otherwise flat side panels, with doorhandles that sit flush with the bodywork. A character line goes from the edge of the front headlights, all the way back to the slim taillights and the pointy bootlid. The rear bumper incorporates an oval tailpipe on each side, linked together by a chrome trim.
Inside it’s pure TT, complete with the 12.3-inch full-colour display used for the digital instrument cluster, and the jet engine round air vents that incorporates the aircond controls. The only difference is that the rear occupants now have their own doors, but the TT Sportback will only accept two persons in the back due to the center console that stretches through the entire interior.
Powering the TT Sportback concept is a 2.0 TFSI from the EA 888 engine family coupled to a 7-speed S tronic dual clutch gearbox with quattro permanent all-wheel drive. In this state of tune it produces 400 hp at 6,400 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,400 – 6,000 rpm.
With the chassis and engine readily available, let’s hope Audi gives the green light for the TT Sportback to enter the production line, as it could potentially be a proper rival to the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
