The fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 was unveiled last month and today at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Mazda has confirmed that it will be powered by a 1.5-litre SkyActiv petrol engine [UPDATE: 1.5-litre for global market, while 2.0-litre for the US].
No information as of now on its performance figures but surely not a 2.0-litre engine as rumoured earlier [UPDATE: 2.0-litre SkyActiv for US market]. The new MX-5 is said to be about 100kg lighter than its predecessor. The front wings, bonnet and boot are now made from aluminium, including a lightweight soft-top construction all contribute to the weight shed.
The engine now sits further back than the superseding model, and lower too. This means better centre of gravity and better weight distribution. Mazda claims it has a perfect 50:50 weight balance, further adding credibility to the fun dynamism the Mk1 offered. Looking forward to that!
The new Mazda MX-5 is set to arrive in the UK summer 2015, priced from around £19,000. Well, we Malaysians will have to sit and wait for a bit.
