Bentley Mulsanne Speed announced, 1,100 Nm of torque from just 1,750 rpm

So you thought 1,000 Nm from the 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 in the Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG was insane, Bentley announced their Mulsanne Speed is generating 1,100Nm from a 6¾‑litre twin-turbo V8. As if 1,020Nm in the “standard” Mulsanne (which Bentley prefers to call it as “the signature Mulsanne”) wasn’t enough!

The legendary 6¾‑litre V8 gets a totally redesigned combustion system with new variable valve timing and optimised turbocharger control to deliver an extra 25hp and 80Nm more torque compared to the signature Mulsanne. A total of 530 hp can be had at 4,200 rpm, while the whole dollop of 1,100 Nm of torque arrives from just 1,750 rpm.

All the power is sent to the rear wheels only, via a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox that has been recalibrated to cope with the tremendous amount of torque. The Mulsanne Speed is capable of hitting a top speed of 305 km/h, and the century sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 4.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the signature Mulsanne.

Not only that, the V8 is equipped with cylinder deactivation system that shuts down half the amount of running cylinders making it a V4 when not in full use which leads to an extended fuel range by 80 km. The combined fuel consumption is rated at 14.6 l/100 km, but seriously who’s counting?

With the increased power, the Mulsanne Speed receives a bespoke driver-focused Sport suspension with switchable Custom setting that allows drivers to individually match steering, chassis and engine tunes according to personal preference.

You can tell apart the Mulsanne Speed from the signature Mulsanne by spotting a polished stainless steel Speed badging on the front fenders, or you can observe the stainless steel parts adorned on the exterior of the Mulsanne Speed. They are finished in a darker tint compared to the signature Mulsanne, and the taillights gets a similar treatment as well. A set of Bentley’s first ever directional 21-inch wheels also help to distinguish it from the signature Mulsanne too.

Inside, the Mulsanne Speed is fitted with Mulliner Driving Specification that includes diamond quilted leather on the door panels and seats with embroidered winged-B emblems, knurled gear lever and “organ stop” ventilation controls, coined finished interior door handles, and drilled alloy foot pedals.

A 60 GB hard drive is available, along with other possible options such as electrically powered tables with iPad connectivity at the back of the front seats, on-board Wi-Fi, frosted glass bottle cooler complete with crystal champagne flutes behind the rear armrest, and a 2,200 watt Naim for Bentley premium audio system with 14-speakers.

The Mulsanne Speed will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on 2nd of October, and will be available for customer delivery from December onwards.
