Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) has updated the Beetle 1.2 TSI with a complete RM10,000 price drop, offering two new trims called Design, and Sport. They differ in terms of equipment at RM 11,000 difference.
On the outside, both specs get auto-folding mirrors, front foglamps with static cornering lights, and 16-inch ‘Whirl’ alloy wheels. Design spec gets a pair of halogen headlamps but on Sport it’s equipped with Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights.
Inside, the Design spec comes with RCD 310 radio system with single CD slot, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and 8 speakers. Sport will replace the radio with a touch screen RCD 510 unit with 6 CD changer, SD-card slot, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and 8 speakers. Additionally, Sport will offer more creature comforts with the inclusion of Vienna leather upholstery, front sports seats, 2-zone climate control, cruise control, and shift paddles.
Mechanically, it retains the 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged powerplant and the 7-speed DSG transmission. Just to recap, the 1,197 cc powerplant generates 104 hp at 5,000 rpm and 175 Nm of torque from 1,550 to 4,100 rpm. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 10.9 seconds and the top speed is 180 km/h. The combined fuel consumption is 5.9 l/100 km.
For safety, a new anti-theft alarm system with electronic immobiliser is thrown in with this update. Other safety features include ABS with BA, ESC, front and rear parking sensors, hill-hold assist, and front, side, and thorax airbags.
The Beetle is offered in Candy White, Tornado Red, Saturn Yellow, Toffee Brown and Deep Black exterior colours. The Beetle 1.2l TSI Design is priced at RM131,888, while the 1.2l TSI Sport is priced at RM142,888 and both are now available for booking. In conjunction with the reintroduction of the updated Beetle 1.2 TSI range, VGM invites everyone to “Get Happy with The Beetle” with a number of fun and engaging activities in showrooms happening from 15th to 17th August 2014.
