Walk in to any VW showroom now and you will be able to view the latest addition to Volkswagen Malaysia growing range of cars. It’s the new Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4TSI 2WD. This new model is CBU from Germany, not a local CKD variant as yet.

Back in 2011, VGM (Volkswagen Group Malaysia) launched the facelifted model of the 2.0 TSI Tiguan, offering a 210hp engine coupled with a 7-speed wet clutch DSG gearbox and VW’s 4Motion AWD system. The 1.4TSI variant loses the 4Motion system, but retains a more reliable wet clutch DSG gearbox, albeit with only 6 speeds. The 1.4TSI genrates 160hp and 240NM of torque.
Performance wise, the 1.4 TSI engine will propel the 1.5 tonne SUV from standstill to 100km/h in a mere 8.9 seconds, before hitting the top speed of 198km/h. If driven sanely, the Tiguan will return a fuel consumption of 8.9L/100km.
Standard accessories for the new Tiguan includes Climatic semi-auto aircon, ‘Milan’ Alcantara seat upholstery, ‘Boston’ alloy wheels, a rear view camera and a rain sensing windscreen. Also standard is an anti-theft alarm and drowsiness detection. There’s also an optional “Tech Pack” that adds bi-xenon headlamps with LED DRLs, Climatic dual-zone aircon, Bluetooth connectivity, foldable wing mirrors, multi-function steering as well as the RCD510.
On the safety front, the Tiguan offers ABS, EBD, ESC, 6 airbags and ISOFIX mounts. Euro NCAP has awarded the VW Tiguan with 5 stars for it’s crash test results.
Volkswagen Group Malaysia is selling the VW Tiguan 1.4TSI for RM178,888. The Tech Pack adds another RM10,000 to the listed price. Warranty is a standard 5 year affair like other VW models, with unlimited mileage. The color palette includes Pure White, Reflex Silver, Toffee Brown, Pepper Grey and Titanium Beige.
