Third generation Audi TT Coupe unveiled at Geneva Motor Show [+Video]

Audi has just unveiled the third generation all-new Audi TT at the Geneva Motor Show. Not only it shares the same VW Group’s MQB platform with VW Golf, both Audi TT and TTS use the same engine as the Golf. The new Audi TT is now 140kg lighter than the original Audi TT, thanks to its aluminium and ultra-high-strength steel alloy structure.

The original Audi TT did look like a stretched out VW Beetle when Audi first introduced it to the world in 1998. Then came the curvy Mk2 TT in 2006 which is well acceptable up until today. This all-new third generation TT appears to be a little boxier and is constructed mainly by straight lines. However, it is still unmistakably an Audi TT.Third generation Audi TT unveiled at Geneva

The new design gives the TT a more muscular and aggressive look from all angles. Even with its wider wheelbase by 37mm to 2,505mm, it is about as long its predecessor at 4,180 mm. It is 1,832 mm wide, and has the same height as the Mk2 TT at 1,353 mm.

There will be few models which includes a manual front wheel drive and a 2.0-litre TDI engine from the Golf GTD. It produces 184 hp and 380Nm of torque. It does 0 to 100km/h in 7.2 seconds. Then there’s the dual-clutch, quattro 2.0-litre TFSI engine from the Golf GTI engine with Performance Pack. 230 hp, 370 Nm of torque takes you from 0 to 100 in 6.0 seconds, or 5.3 seconds with optional Quattro and six-speed S-Tronic dual clutch automatic.Third generation Audi TT unveiled at Geneva

If that’s not fast enough, Audi has the TTS that is powered by a 310 hp, 380 Nm 2.0-litre TFSI. It can do 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds! By the way, at a speed of 120 km/h a spoiler extends from the trunk lid to reduce drag and increase downforce. It also works to practically tell the world ‘Here, here! I’m speeding!’

Audi had a total revamp on its interior with “less is more” philosophy in mind. It is so neat, there’s even no central display, as everything is laid out ahead of the driver on a TFT screen, or ‘Audi’s Virtual Cockpit’. The controls for the air conditioning system are located on the air vents themselves.Third generation Audi TT unveiled at Geneva

Passengers in the car can enjoy a slightly roomier space due to the increase in wheelbase. Luggage space in the boot is at 305 litres, which is 13 litres bigger than the previous model. The in-car audio system features Bang & Olufsen Sound System of 14-channel amplifier and 12 loudspeakers.

Audi has yet to announce the release date and price. However, it is speculated to be around £28,000, or RM185k.
