Volkswagen Group Malaysia to introduce the VW Jetta CKD in March 2014

The long overdue locally-assembled VW Jetta, which was initially said to be rolling out from the Pekan plant right after the Passat in 2012 is now confirmed. The new Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia, Christoph Aringer today announced that the Volkswagen Jetta CKD will be launched in a month’s time.

The announcement which was made at the Volkswagen Group Malaysia Media Luncheon in KL Hilton this afternoon, was kept simple with no further information such as on the specifications. According to reliable sources, the Malaysian-assembled Jetta will maintain its TSI engine and the DSG gearbox.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia is setting a high sales target this year, at 20,000 units. The figure set for 2014 doubles what VGM managed in 2013, which may be a steep hill to climb. Mr. Aringer however is confident that his team can achieve the target via sales volume from the newly launched Polo 1.6 and the upcoming Jetta CKD.  vw-jetta-malaysia-2

Should the Jetta CKD is powered by the same engine and gearbox as the CBU model, how much will it cost and will it fit in comfortably in the local C-segment market? Let us know what you think.
