Audi Q1 compact SUV will be Audi’s new member of the Q family in 2016

Audi’s Q family now comprises the Audi Q3, Q5 and Q7. To strengthen Audi’s global presence and competitiveness, expanding its product range is key; hence the addition of a new member to the Q family, the Audi Q1 compact SUV. Audi plans to expand its total line-up to 60 models, from the current 49 by 2020. This will see Audi’s total unit sales of more than two million units a year.

The Board of Management and the Works Council of AUDI AG has just confirmed that the new compact SUV will go into production in Ingolstadt and will be on the road in 2016. The production of the new compact SUV will help fill up the capacity at the main plant Ingolstadt, alongside its A and B segments cousins, the A3, A4 and A5 family.

The smaller Audi Q1 compact SUV will try to follow the foot steps of its elder brother Q5 to be the global market leader in its range. However, there’s no details on it’s specifications. Looking at the teaser concept Audi released, it is too futuristic to be true. Being a B-segment compact SUV, we may be looking at a BMW x1 as a close competitor. We shall see when the time comes.
