The Super GT 2012 season will be starting soon, and prior the first race the teams from both GT500 and GT300 categories were busy testing their machines in the Okyama circuit. One of the few interesting features on this year’s GT300 is apart of new entries from the Audi R8 LMS, Chevrolet Corvette, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, Nissan GT-R GT3, Subaru BRZ GT300 and so on, the hybrids like Honda CRZ and Toyota Prius have joined the fray as well.
Yes, the tree hugger versus a league of super cars, only in Japan!
So how does the clean but dull hybrid systems help the Prius to compete against much faster sport cars in the GT300? However, during the recent test, things didn’t go as well for the APR team who races the Prius GT300 car. The car was unfortunately caught fire and was stopped during the test session. The driver however was unharmed as he managed to get out from the burning car on time.
Investigation revealed that the damage was caused by a faulty fuel line rather than any fault found on the hybrid system. The fuel leaked into the exhaust and caught fire. The fire has nothing to do with the Hybrid system, which ran faultless during the test. The team declared the damage to be minimial and should be ready for the first race in Okyama in few weeks time.
Oh well, this didnt go as planned….
Here’s the video which caught the Prius, (literally) on fire. So, back to the drawing board?
