Bezza engine failure caused by sugar? Perodua issues statement

A recent case of a new Perodua Bezza 1.3 X’s engine failing after eight hours of purchase has recently been circulating around social media. According to a Facebook post by the owner of the said Perodua Bezza, the car was purchased at a Perodua dealership in Segamat in October 2023.

According to the owner, upon discovering the engine failure issue, she requested the dealership to have her faulty car replaced. However, she was told that the dealership is waiting for a decision to be made by the carmaker’s headquarters (HQ), which could take between two weeks and a month.

She also mentioned that three weeks after the issue was first discovered, she was contacted by the carmaker’s HQ and was notified that the engine failure was caused by external materials such as some sugar-like substance, which the carmaker did not utilise when manufacturing the engine.

She reports that she was advised to apply for a new loan for a new car to replace the current one. The offer was refused as the owner mentioned that she has been paying a loan for the faulty car for two months, and is asking the carmaker to help clear her existing loan before she applies for the new one.

Responding to the issue, Perodua has put out a statement, saying that it has been in constant communication with the owner since the incident happened in October last year. Since then, the carmaker has taken several actions to resolve the matter, including offering her a courtesy car and has also proposed to buy back the said Perodua Bezza.

Perodua says that it has also assured the owner that her case is being prioritised, and denies any allegation that no action has been taken to resolve the issue. The local carmaker is currently conducting a thorough investigation towards the car and will share more details in due time.
